Requirements
It is recommended Level 3 ITEC Massage or equivalent. You must bring with you bed sheets & it is recommended that you wear a uniform.
Course Overview:
Lymphatic drainage massage (LDM) is a very gentle, rhythmic style of massage that mimics the action of the Lymphatic system. It is used to enhance the immune system, reduce pain and oedema and improve the appearance and health of the skin. Effective in treatment of conditions such Fibromyalgia, Lymes disease, Oedema. LDM is deeply relaxing making is very effective for clients with stress and anxiety.
LDM helps to speed the healing of injuries and reduce scar tissue making is an ideal choice for sports injuries and for those recovering from surgery.
Lymphatic Drainage Massage techniques can be used in conjunction with many other therapies including sports massage, deep tissue massage and reflexology.
Course content includes :
– Anatomy of the Lymphatic and Circulatory system
– The principles and Benefits of Lymphatic Drainage Massage
– Relationship between blood and lymph
– Directions of the flow of Lymph
– Watersheds
– Contraindications to Lymphatic Draining Massage treatment
– Explanation, demonstration and practice full body lymphatic drainage massage routine
– Side Affects to LDM
– Aftercare and Homecare advice for clients
– Self-care and self-treatment
*This training does not qualify therapists to work with clients who have had Lymphatic nodes removed for those with Chronic Lymphoedema, primary or secondary Lymphoedema, or Lymphoedema as a result of Cancer Treatment.
Course Content :
The main skills the learner will perform are:
- Lymphatic drainage massage – to include consultation and contra-indications, Selecting suitable massage mediums for the client’s skin type, classical lymphatic drainage movements and adapting the treatment to the client’s specific needs
- The learner will also learn about related health and safety and client care and communication which is essential in order to work and be successful in the industry.
This qualification also provides:
- The related knowledge and understanding required to perform the lymphatic drainage massage skills listed above effectively in particular the structure and function of the lymphatic system and common diseases and disorders that may affect when a client should or should not receive treatment
- Opportunities for learners to focus on the development of their wider skills in a Massage setting, such as communicating with clients, working with others and problem-solving
- Opportunities for learners to develop a range of skills, techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in employment as a massage therapist.

On completion of this Certificate, learners will be able to:

- Identify the structures being worked over and the effects of lymphatic drainage on them
- Explain common diseases and disorders of the lymphatic system
- Explain the appropriate legislation applicable to lymphatic drainage massage treatment
- Explain the issues surrounding consent to treatment
- Explain methods of consultation
- Explain the importance of referral procedures
- Recognise the contra-indications to lymphatic drainage massage
- Demonstrate appropriate client care
- Explain and demonstrate the correct hygiene procedures
- Explain and demonstrate lymphatic drainage movements
- Explain the importance of the use of correct pressure
- Explain and demonstrate the superficial lymph drainage routes of the body
- Explain the factors that can affect lymphatic flow
- Recognise and explain conditions that would benefit from lymphatic drainage massage
- Review and evaluate the lymphatic drainage massage treatment/programme
Explain the importance of giving appropriate home care advice after treatment
Certificate on completion :
ITEC Level 3 Certificate in Lymphatic Drainage Massage

Enrollment is not fully confirmed until the ESF form is completed. The ESF form will be sent from the Image Skillnet office during office hours.
