Who it’s for/requirements
This course is suitable for qualified stylists looking to improve and perfect their technique, or for graduate stylists as a finishing course. Participants should be cutting on the salon floor for a minimum of 1 year.
Course Overview
In this course, you will learn how to conduct a successful consultation, assess face shape, decide on appropriate techniques and execute a cutting plan to achieve a strong result and a satisfied client. The course focuses on building confidence in both decision-making and practical execution, helping you refine your approach to cutting through a structured understanding of shape, technique and suitability.
Day 1: Triangle Graduation Cutting
- The theory behind triangle graduation and how it influences shape and movement
- How to tailor your cut to suit different face shapes and hair types
- Techniques to manipulate triangle graduation for personalised results
- Correct body positioning for both stylist and client to improve accuracy and control
- How to refine and polish your shape for a flawless finish
- A clear understanding of high vs. low graduation within a triangle structure
- The effects of horizontal, vertical, and diagonal sectioning
- Common mistakes and how to avoid the danger of losing corners
- Professional wrap drying techniques to enhance your finished look
Day 2: Square Graduation Cutting
Develop strong, structured and balanced shapes through a focused square graduation approach, designed to improve control and precision.
On this day, you will cover:
- The theory behind square graduation and its impact on structure and weight
- How to adapt your work for different face shapes and hair types
- Methods to manipulate square graduation for tailored results
- Body positioning for clean, consistent lines
- Techniques to refine and perfect your shape
- Understanding high vs low graduation within a square framework
- The impact of horizontal, vertical and diagonal sectioning
- Avoiding common errors, including loss of corners and structure
- Wrap drying techniques

About the Trainer
Sean Taaffe is the owner and founder of Sean Taaffe Hair & Beauty, established in 1989 as a one-man operation in Killorglin. The business has since expanded to multiple locations across Killarney, Tralee and Killorglin, with a team of 60 professionals.
Education is a core part of the company’s approach, with ongoing investment in both in-salon training and external courses in Ireland and abroad. Each team member completes a minimum of three courses per year, with some undertaking up to ten, ensuring a consistently high standard of knowledge and skill. The team is also encouraged to enter competitions regularly as part of their commitment to continuous improvement and client satisfaction.
