The first part of this course looks at the importance of good stock control. It is designed to help participants to understand the importance of having product in place at the right time to meet clients’ needs, while at the same time, ensuring that cash is not tied up in an unproductive way. This is achieved through showing the effects of having too much or too little stock, and the resulting implications, and working with various templates and real-world examples to show best practice.
The second part of this course takes participants through the key essentials of merchandising, helping to ensure that they can make the best use of the space(s) that they have available to them, while understanding the potential of growing sales through excellence in merchandising. Participants are also asked to share with the trainer, in advance of the course, photos of any (or all) areas of their business where they’d like to improve their merchandised displays.
On this course you will learn about;
- Financial Considerations
- How Much to Order
- Systems of Stock Control
- When to Order?
- Other Stock Issues
- What is Merchandising?
- Why is it important to our business?
- Planning the use of space
- Examples of Merchandising in practice: open discussion
- Review and discussion of shared photos
- Access to a computer (laptop or desktop), or a tablet, with a camera and microphone. While a smartphone could be used, the screen is too small for this programme.
- Relatively good WiFi / broadband connection;
- Ideally the Zoom app or one of the mainstream internet browsers (e.g. Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Safari);
- Pen, blank paper and a calculator (on phone is more than adequate)
Experience of Stock Control and/or Merchandising would be an advantage but is NOT essential. Pre-course questionnaires will be used to ensure participants’ training needs are met.
Project Work / Work Experience / Exams
This course does not have an exam or any follow up project work.
Following the Stock Control workshop, participants will have learned about the essentials of good stock control and will see how it contributes significantly to their business. You will better understand the financial impacts (positive or negative) of stock control and will be better armed to manage this cost positively.
